The Best Dressed Feet at the Royal Wedding 2018

It’s fair to say that I haven’t paid that much attention to the growing anticipating of the Royal Wedding and was only vaguely aware that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were on the cover of every magazine I walked past in the shops. In fact it was only today, after the wedding that I have realised who ‘she’ is in relationship to Suits… you could say I need to get with the programme a little.

I am grateful therefore that a friend threw a wedding party which made me aware of the fashion show that was taking place at Windsor Castle. And what a show it was with some beautiful outfits and everyone looking very dapper. My personal favourite outfits have to go to Lady Kitty Spencer who nailed her Royal Wedding look and then I couldn’t be writing this without mentioning Amal Clooney who looked stunning in her vibrant yellow combination. What added just the right edge was her gold metallic shoes… and so my attention went to the shoes!

The dress code for a Royal Wedding could be seen as quite stifling so it was great to see some boundaries being pushed. Ladies must have stocking’d legs and are only allowed to wear closed toe shoes, so no sandals on show despite that very un-British blue sky. The dress code also states that women must wear heels, but no stilettos but it was clear that there was quite a liberal interpretation of this, and I am very grateful for this too as there were some stunning stilettos on show.

Here’s my round up of the best shoes on show at the Royal Wedding:

1. Priyanka Chopra – lavender beaded high heeled shoes

In my opinion, the best dressed feet belonged to Priyanka Chopra, close friend to Meghan Markle. These shoes signal a fab new trend ahead for beautiful sparkly feet!

2. Amal Clooney – gold metallic high heeled pumps

This lady knows how to dress well – does she ever look anything but amazing! Her bright yellow outfit was beautiful and regal, perfect for the Royal Wedding but my attention was definitely on her shoes. I want some, just like that… gorgeous shoes!

3. Victoria Beckham – vivid orange stilettos

Now if there is someone who can bend the dress code rules it’s VB. There’s no question these are stiletto heels and they totally rock. Love how subtle and stylish her navy outfit is and then a huge POP of bright orange on her beautiful shoes was spot on.

4. Oprah Winfrey – blush pink Mary Jane mules

Oprah’s last minute change of outfit has been talked about all over the fashion pages today and it seems to me that she made the right call. She looked stunning in blush pink Stella McCartney and her shoes finished her look beautifully. On trend mules in a beautiful, understated Mary Jane style. Perfect.

The not so glamourous side of being a shoe addict

Mi Piaci Blush & Silver Leather Brogues // Flat Shoes // Leather Shoes

Mi Piaci Blush & Silver Leather Brogues

So it’s not all high heels (or flats) and glitz when you are a 100% shoe addict. The lust for a shoe will overtake even the most grounded individual and make you buy shoes that are just a bit too small. I do it more than I should and recently fell for these beautiful blush and silver brogues. The are gorgeous in every way but they just don’t fit my big feet so here I sit with unmatched odd ski socks on as I work from home today, ever hopeful that they will be able to join me on an adventure out in the real world soon.

I figured I’m not alone in this and so here are my top tips for stretching shoes

Top Tips for Stretching Shoes That Don’t Fit

1.Thick Socks & Heat

This is my go to (as you can see above.. sexy huh!). Find your thickest socks, I find ski or walking socks are the best for this or if you don’t have these double up and put on a few pairs of socks. Squeeze your feet into your shoes and wear them for a while. As well as helping to stretch out this technique will also soften up the backs which can sometimes rub. If you have a pair that are a bit smaller than just tight, or you don’t have all day to wander round in this glamourous get up add some heat. Use your hairdryer to gently heat the leather and it will speed up the process. Keep your feet in the shoes until the heat has completely cooled from the shoe.

2. Ice ice baby

So this one has the tendancy to become a little bit wet and messy but as everyone knows as water turns to ice it expands so.. get yourself a couple of watertight sandwich bags and fill them up with water. Put the full bags into your shoes and then your shoes into the freezer. You’ll need to leave them overnight and my the morning you should have beautifully stretched, if a bit chilly new shoes.

3. Stuff your shoes

So I’ve not tried this one myself but I have read it works and it’s a good set up and leave shoe stretcher as you don’t need to worry too much about keeping a check in on your shoes.

Find a bottle, a potato or something else sturdy and semi foot shaped and sized, wrap it in something soft and push it into the toes of your shoes. Leave them overnight or longer and it should work a treat.

4. Use a Shoe Stretcher

So these things aren’t always cheap but a shoe stretcher enables you to stretch the length and width of your shoes. I should probably invest in one of these

They are simple to use – you just put the shoe stretcher inside your shoe and twist it until it’s snug.¬† Twist it some more and leave your shoes, ideally overnight and they should fit a treat ūüôā

Love at first sight..

In time I wonder how many of my blog posts will have this heading. The struggle in my head between what I could practically wear (and afford in this case) and what I really love is evidenced in this shoe.

It is 100% amazing. On trend blush and animal print and beautiful heel detail. There is nothing I don’t love about these, except the price.. but lazy Sunday morning are made for a bit of shoe lusting.

6. Camilla Velvet Slippers with folded heel – $279AUD

My love for slippers/house shoes aside I’ve definitely been on the fence about the velvet slipper styles shoes that were just seen everywhere last winter. I think I may have been persuaded though helped along by the arrival of this beautiful pair of slipper shoes.¬†¬†The¬†Velvet Slippers with Folded Heel¬†boast an easy slip-on design with a collapsible counter and a stunningly beaded elephant placed at the toe and being designed by the Camilla team you can be certain these are on trend and amazing quality.

7. Joe Mercer, Xandera, $189.95 AUD

The Xandera shoe is no exception, totally leading the way with the trend and with a gorgeous pewter metallic sheen!

On the prowl…

I’m a bit partial to some leopard print footwear. I love how it can brighten up an otherwise drab black outfit without making you look like a brash pub landlady in the way it can sometimes (for me anyway) if it’s a print on a dress or a top.

This makes an even bigger difference on a pair of flats and these might just be my next pair of shoes. I love the low cut look and the slingback styling is just spot on for with a pair of crops.

These are a winner Country Road, and a with a leather upper and lining, a bit of a bargain at $169 (NZD). International Shipping too so not just for antipodeans!! Whoop!

Monday Blues

Ok, so today isn’t Monday, but I had the Monday blues big time this week. Definitely did not want my new working week to start. It was coincidence then that I had worn my new baby blue flats to work and I have to say these are becoming a fast favourite.

The shade is perfect… dress up with smart trousers or they look amazing with 7/8 jeans. The ankle strap is wide and the leather so soft that these are exactly the shoes to prove that flat (comfy) shoes aren’t boring. Love these more every time I wear them
